How much do Facebook and Instagram ads cost?
Meta ads cost what you budget. You set a daily or lifetime budget and Meta’s auction decides what each result costs. For lead-generation campaigns, the 2026 median was $27.39 per lead and $1.80 per click, from $12.30 per lead in career services to $61.56 for dentists (WordStream by LocaliQ). For a local business that wants a steady flow of leads, plan on at least $2,000 a month in ad spend. That is Netembark’s minimum recommended budget.
Enter the leads you want each month and your cost per lead, or build cost per lead from CPM, click-through rate and conversion rate under Advanced. The calculator gives you a monthly and daily budget. Every figure is ad spend paid to Meta only.
Your estimate
Estimate only. Actual costs, clicks, leads and results vary with competition, location, seasonality, ad quality and platform changes, and can be higher or lower. It is not a quote or a guarantee.
Budgets shown are ad spend paid to Meta only. Lead quality varies by audience, offer and creative.
Industry defaults are 2026 medians for leads-objective campaigns from WordStream by LocaliQ, Facebook Ads Benchmarks 2026 (452 US campaigns, April 2025 to June 2026). The report has no lead-campaign figures for legal or financial services, so those start blank. Some categories rest on small samples, so treat them as a starting point.
How the estimate works
Cost per lead (CPM mode) = (CPM ÷ 1,000) ÷ click-through rate ÷ conversion rate
Base ad spend = leads goal × cost per lead
Recommended monthly budget = base ad spend + 20% cushion, or $2,000, whichever is higher
Daily budget = recommended monthly budget ÷ 30.4
Meta doesn’t sell keywords, so there is no cost per click to look up in advance. Most advertisers either use the cost per lead from past campaigns or build it up: what 1,000 impressions cost (CPM), how many people click (CTR) and how many of those submit a form or call (conversion rate).
About conversion rates. The calculator prefills the industry’s Meta conversion rate where the report has one. Netembark’s 12–16% average covers its paid ad campaigns generally, where a conversion is a phone call, form submission or booked consultation. You can switch to it with one click, but it isn’t a Meta-specific figure or a guarantee. Results vary by market, offer and website.
The 20% cushion and $2,000 minimum. Lead costs rise with competition, seasonality and audience fatigue, so the calculator budgets 20% above base spend and shows it as its own line. Below about $2,000 a month, most campaigns produce too few leads to learn from. If your goal works out to less, you still see the computed number and what $2,000 would buy.
What drives the cost of Meta ads?
Meta runs an auction for every ad slot. Its ad auction picks the ad with the highest total value, based on your bid, how likely the person is to take the action you want (estimated action rates) and ad quality. In practice, these are the factors that move your cost:
- Audience size and competition. Small local audiences and audiences many advertisers want, like homeowners and parents, cost more to reach.
- Creative and offer. Ads people engage with get better delivery. A clear offer with real photos of your work usually beats stock imagery.
- Seasonality. CPMs tend to climb in the fourth quarter as retailers flood the auction.
- Ad fatigue. When the same people see an ad too often, results drop and costs rise. Plan to refresh creative.
- Form type and friction. Short instant forms produce cheaper leads; extra qualifying questions cost more per lead but often bring better ones.
- Restricted categories. Housing, employment, financial products and some health advertisers have fewer targeting options, which can raise costs.

How to set a Meta ads budget, step by step
- Start with a lead goal. If you know your close rate, work back from customers: 10 customers at a 20% close rate is 50 leads.
- Find your cost per lead. In Ads Manager, divide amount spent by leads for your last 60–90 days. If you’re new to Meta ads, use your industry benchmark.
- Add the cushion and check the minimum. The calculator does both.
- Set the daily budget at the calculator’s daily figure, at the campaign or ad set level.
- Give it time to learn. Avoid big edits in the first couple of weeks, and judge results on cost per lead and cost per customer over a full month.
- Refresh creative before results fade, then re-run the calculator with your real numbers.
Common Meta ads budget mistakes
- Splitting a small budget across many ad sets. Each gets too little delivery to learn. Consolidate.
- Judging leads by cost alone. Very cheap form leads can be low quality. Track which leads book.
- Slow follow-up. Social leads cool off quickly. Call or text within minutes.
- Running the same creative for months. Fatigue raises costs quietly.
- Using Meta to replace search. Meta creates demand; search captures people already looking. Most local businesses do best with both.
Netembark is a Meta Business Partner and runs Facebook and Instagram ads alongside search, reported by cost per lead. Planning both channels? Meta works well for med spas, schools and home improvement offers with strong visuals.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I spend on Facebook ads?
Spend enough to buy the leads you need at your cost per lead, plus a 20% cushion, with $2,000 a month as Netembark’s minimum recommended Meta ads budget. For example, 60 leads a month at the 2026 home improvement median of $42.95 is $2,577 in base spend, or about $3,092 a month with the cushion.
How much do Facebook ads cost per lead?
The median cost per lead for Facebook lead campaigns was $27.39 in WordStream by LocaliQ’s 2026 benchmarks. It ranged from $12.30 for career and employment to $61.56 for dentists, and your cost depends on your audience, offer and creative.
How much do Instagram ads cost?
Instagram ads are bought through the same Meta Ads Manager and auction as Facebook ads, so they are priced the same way, by your bid, audience and ad quality. Most lead campaigns run on both platforms at once, and this calculator covers the combined Meta budget.
How much do Facebook ads cost per day?
Divide your monthly budget by 30.4. A $2,000 monthly budget is about $66 a day. Meta lets you set a daily or lifetime budget, and spend can vary from day to day.
Are Facebook leads cheaper than Google leads?
Usually, yes. The 2026 median cost per lead was $27.39 for Facebook lead campaigns versus $66.69 for Google search ads in WordStream by LocaliQ’s reports. Search leads are often further along, though, because the person was already looking for the service, so compare cost per customer, not just cost per lead.
Why does the estimate add a 20% cushion and a $2,000 minimum?
The cushion covers lead costs that rise with competition, seasonality and audience fatigue. The minimum exists because smaller budgets rarely produce enough leads for Meta’s delivery system or for you to tell which ads work. Both appear as separate lines, and the computed number stays visible when the minimum applies.
Is this the total cost of advertising on Facebook and Instagram?
No. The estimate covers ad spend paid to Meta only. It does not include any other marketing costs, such as creative, video or landing page work.
